Beacon Hotel, in Taichung

Date of stay: 6th Jun 2013
Duration: 1 night
Booking Agent: Agoda
Paid: S$117.87
Wifi: Free
Breakfast: International

Going there:

It was our first stop during our 1 week Taiwan trip. I chose Taichung as it was more convenient to make our way to Sun Moon Lake in Nantou county the next day (we could take a direct bus from Taichung HSR Station). It cost us about NT240 from Taichung HSR Station to the hotel.

Looking into the "lobby"

The place:

When you enter the hotel, you'll see the Concierge sign. The staff on-duty told us to check-in on the 12th floor, where the lobby is. Other than checking-in for Executive Floor, this is the first time I checked-in on the highest floor, honestly.
Concierge at the first floor
Reception at the 12th Floor
Lobby
Corridor leading to our room.. look at the carpet effect.. looks like never ending corridor

Our boy wasted no time trying the bed - to our disappointment, a queen size bed

Decent bathroom

Very neat and special way to put up the otherwise cluttered toiletries

Mini pantry - do you realise they do not give teas in pairs? 1 packet each type

Utilising the free wifi
Spread of buffet breakfast - International selection

Attractions Nearby:
Beacon Hotel is about a 100m walk from Fengjia night market. What's more cool is there are shops along both sides of the road leading to the night market.

If you are game for smaller size hotel rooms, this may be the one for you. It looks as if it's set-up for business traveler (I mean our room), neat and lean. The room however, reminded husband and I, of hotel rooms in Japan. Very small.

The breakfast is nothing to shout of, but the food were decent enough for the 3 of us, to last till lunch time. Anyway, 2 cups of good brewed coffee is all I needed to kick off my day. (Oh ya, do place the dumpling steamer cover on the cloth they provided at the top, the staff "sounded" me not to place it on the same place even though I placed it upside down, as in, facing food side up.. that shows they are particular about cleanliness, isn't it?)
On the down side, if you are traveling with young children (read still need to be carried, and you do not have a stroller), you may consider to stay slightly away from the night market. Staying near the night market means you'll have to make your way back to the hotel, regardless of which part of the night market you get to and decided to call it a day. Which means, you'll have to make a TO and FRO night market and hotel. If you stay a little away from the night market, you could probably just hail a cab from anywhere you felt like your feet is going to give way, and reach your hotel in perfect piece.

Ya, we learnt from experience. We had to carry our little boy who is about 15+kg half of the night market coz he decided he needed a nap there and then. 200m felt like 2000m then.

    1. Hi there, thanks for dropping by. From Taichung HSR to Beacon hotel took us less than half hour. It should take about 20 mins really but there was a little traffic. Hope this helps.

  2. Hi, chanced upon your blog and the posts helped in my planning of itinerary, thank you!

I am planning to visit Taichung/SML/Cingjing in June as well. However, I am worried about the weather, will it be a huge factor affecting roadtrips? Further to that, I read about floods, typhoons and earthquakes happening during that period, are those areas affected during your trip?
    Hope to hear your advise!

    Thanks so much!

    1. Hi there, thanks for dropping by.

When we went there in June this year, it was rainy indeed. We experienced drizzles at CingJing Farm which calls for an early end at Green Green Grassland (http://izlernen-reise.blogspot.com/2013/06/taiwan-cingjing-810-jun13.html). And a heavy downpour when we were in Taipei, but we still had a lot of fun at the sea: http://izlernen-reise.blogspot.com/2013/06/taiwan-taipei-1012-jun13.html

Earthquake happened days before our trip, I checked with CingJing minsu owner, they told me they are not affected. So, it's better to make a check with the local contact if possible.

We were lucky we didn't meet with flood or typhoon, I guess coz the places we went were not high risk places.

Hope you will enjoy the trip as much as we did! :-)

  4. Hi Camie, we took a shuttle bus from Taoyuan airport to HSR Station, then we took HSR to Taichung Station and took a cab from there.
